After nearly a month of fuel shortages and soaring prices, relief is in sight for residents of Western Province, with a fuel shipment now en route to the province.
For the past few weeks, fuel prices in Gizo have risen sharply, with petrol selling for as much as $20 per litre.
In the Shortland Islands, along the far western border, prices reportedly climbed to nearly $30 per litre.
The shortage has significantly affected daily activities, with many vehicle owners in Gizo forced to limit their movements.
The situation has been even more challenging for boat operators, particularly those relying on outboard motors, as fuel scarcity disrupted transport and livelihoods.
However, according to reports, the vessel transporting fuel to Western Province is expected to arrive this week, bringing much-needed relief to communities affected by the prolonged shortage.
