The Governor General Sir Frank Kabui has called on all citizens of Solomon Islands to support the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government in order to realise the change that the government wants to achieve for the country.
Delivering the traditional “Speech to the Throne” to mark the opening of the 10th Parliament yesterday, Sir Frank informed the nation of the policy intentions of the Government – detailing the reforms that the government is preparing to undertake in the next four years.
Sir Frank expressed confidence that by working together with the Government, Solomon Islanders will feel and be part of the change that the country really needs.
“I look forward with enormous confidence and hope to the future, that these policy intentions will be implemented with much vigor and energy,”
“I believe that together we can deliver. I trust that together we can foster change. I have faith that together we can develop our country Solomon Islands,” Sir Frank said in his address.
The Governor General also reminded government ministers that much of the implementation process would depend much on their proactive political directions and sound strategic guidance as they drive the implementation of Government policies.
He also urges all political branches of the executive government including the government caucus, the opposition and the independent group to strive to make a difference on the lives of Solomon Islanders.
“Let us not disappoint our people, let us work together to do a difference on the lives of our people,” Sir Frank said.
Sir Frank acknowledged both the country’s development and donor partners for their continuous assistance, particularly, the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) for its formidable work in restoring law and order and the machinery of government during the last 12 years.
The Speech to the Throne marks the beginning of Parliament this year during which the Government will table the 2015 national budget for approval.
