Governor General Sir David Vunagi says the annual fun run organised by Rotary Club of Honiara is one way of reducing non-communicable disease (NCD) in the country.
Sir Vunagi was invited as the guest at the event and delivered his short remarks.
Sir Vunagi said NCD becomes a problem when everyone don’t have much exercise
“And fun run is a best way of doing exercise.
“Report from the National Referral Hospital (NRH) said that about 60% who died at the NRH are related to NCD.
“This is obvious that 40% death at the NRH is not related to NCDs but other diseases.”
He therefore thanked Rotary Club of Honiara for organising the fun run that coincided with Whit Monday.
Sir David encourages Rotary Club of Honiara to organise more Easter fun run.
NCDs are the leading cause of death globally and national.
NCD is a disease that is not transmissible directly from one person to another. Some of the common NCDs in the country include stroke, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, chronic kidney disease and others.
