The Gizo–Kolombangara Constituency [GKC] has officially opened its second office at Ringi, Kolombangara, Western Province.
Member of Parliament (MP) Jimson Tanagada officially opened office on Monday, 22nd December to coincide with a opening of a sports event.
The other office is located at Gizo.
The opening was described as a significant step towards decentralising services and bringing government closer to rural communities.
He said the office will serve as a consultation centre for community leaders, farmers and fishers, as well as a hub for training, skills development and coordination of fisheries, agriculture and forestry support.
The office will also provide access to information on development initiatives and government programmes for constituents.
As part of the week’s programme, a Mini Trade Expo will also be staged to promote local products and connect producers with potential buyers.
Hon. Tanagada said the expo is aimed at encouraging a shift from subsistence livelihoods to commercial production and income generation.
To support this goal, he confirmed the delivery of several flagship development materials planned for 2025, including 10 boats and engines for fisheries support, 15 coconut driers, 50 chainsaws, and 100 wheelbarrows, knives and spades for agriculture and forestry activities.
He also announced the provision of 25,000 seedlings and greenhouse materials to support cocoa farmers.
“These are not handouts,” Hon. Tanagada said. “They are investments to empower our people, increase productivity and support long-term economic sustainability,” he added.
The sports event and accompanying cultural performances are expected to provide a platform for youth and local artists to showcase their talents while preserving cultural identity.
Hon. Tanagada encouraged performers to present their culture with pride and authenticity, and to pass traditional knowledge on to younger generations.
The launch was attended by several dignitaries, including Minister for Forestry Hon. Jenty Isaac and Western Province Minister for Energy and Electrification Hon. Sutcliffe George, as well as representatives from KFPL and local sports bodies.
