The Gizo–Kolombangara Constituency (GKC) Mini Trade Expo has been described as a key platform for economic empowerment during the GKC Day celebration held this week at Ringgi, Western Province.
The event was held under the theme “One Constituency, One Future: Showcasing Culture, Talent and Development.”
Speaking at the event, Member of Parliament (MP) for Gizo–Kolombangara Constituency at Ringi on Tuesday Hon. Jimson Tanaganda, said the Mini Trade Expo reflects the constituency’s ongoing commitment to strengthening local businesses and building sustainable economic opportunities for its people.
Hon. Tanaganda explained, the expo was designed to connect local businesses, farmers, fishers and entrepreneurs, while also building investment and service provider networks within the constituency.
“The Mini Trade Expo provides an important space for training, learning and the exchange of business information. It also encourages innovation, value-adding and improved market access for our local producers,” he said.
He added that the initiative also aims to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a peaceful and conducive environment for development and strengthening community social cohesion.
According to Hon. Tanaganda, the people of Gizo and Kolombangara are hardworking and resourceful, but often lack exposure, partnerships and access to information.
“What our people need is exposure, partnerships and information. This Expo creates a platform where producers meet buyers, trainees meet trainers, small businesses connect with service providers, and ideas are turned into real opportunities,” he said.
He said government services were also present to support economic activities and provide guidance to local entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Hon. Tanaganda reaffirmed that initiatives such as the Mini Trade Expo are part of the constituency’s broader vision to promote inclusive economic growth, strengthen livelihoods and create sustainable development opportunities for the people of Gizo and Kolombangara.
Meanwhile, at Ringi, there are booths and tents erected by stakeholders, NGOs, Our Telekom and others local business individuals and others have shown case their products.
The event was organized along the GKC Cup which will end this Friday. Cultural performances were also held.
