HONIARA, – The Government of National Unity and Transformation (GNUT), led by Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele, is advancing key initiatives and delivering tangible results despite the ongoing political standoff following the resignations of 12 former ministers.
Recently, the GNUT launched the 2026 Solomon Islands National Infrastructure Investment Plan (SINIIP) Dossier, a strategic roadmap allocating SBD 19.4 billion to national infrastructure development.
Several notable infrastructure projects across the country under the SINIIB involved 19 capital projects in Rennell and Bellona Province, including Ahanga Wharf and Tigoa Road Rehabilitation, the Santa Cruz Airfield upgrade, and Vanikoro Airport groundwork in Temotu Province, the completion of 187km of roads and bridges on Guadalcanal and Malaita provinces.
Others included 98 telecommunications towers installed across the country under the Government’s Digital Transformation policy, the Electric Mobility Program under the Energy & Climate policy and the 98% clearance rate of National Court Circuits achieved so far.
The government is also focusing on social infrastructure, with 22 health projects valued at SBD $3.7 billion and 37 education projects underway, including upgrades to secondary schools and facilities at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU).
Prime Minister Manele emphasised the importance of infrastructure development, saying, “Infrastructure is about opportunity. It’s about connecting our islands, empowering our people, strengthening our economy, and building resilience for future generations.”
The government aims to ensure infrastructure projects are properly planned, prioritised, and implemented to deliver inclusive and sustainable development outcomes, aligning with GNUT’s policy pillars.
