GOOD Governance is the key to success in all sports, says Project Coordinator of the Oceania Paralympic Committee (OPC), Christopher Nunn.
Mr Nunn highlighted this during a three-day workshop he facilitated in Honiara, for para-athletes, coaches and members of the Solomon Islands National Paralympic Committee (SINPC).
“Without good governance, you cannot get results in sport,’’ Nunn strongly stressed.
“Without good coaching, you cannot get good results.
“Without a performance structure, you will not be able to make good progress with your athletes,” he added.
He therefore stressed that the key to success in sports is to have good governance which will lead through transparent administration of sports whether it be in para or any other sports.
“And that’s the sign for all sports. This is a sign for all sports not just for para-sports.
“And at some stage, we need financial support,” he said.
Nunn also confidently highlighted that para-sports in the country is now in good hands compared to what he knew about five years ago.
“I am excited to say the governance has been fixed under the leadership of the newly elected Solomon Islands National Paralympic Committee (SINPC).
“I am so excited to see coaches from different sports coming to find out about para-sports.”
Nunn supported his words with first-hand information during the three days workshop.
“And when we started to look at the athletes to see where their classification was, the coaches where actively involved and I urged para-athletes to join their sports,’’ he added.
