Goshen Enterprise, the Solomon Islands’ only certified taro buyer, has begun receiving taro products from local farmers at its centre in Malaita province.
The establishment of development has creating new economic opportunities for the country’s agricultural sector.
The buying and processing centre, which started operations last year following the installation of new machinery, is the first company in the Solomon Islands to purchase taro and taro-based products directly from farmers in Malaita.
Last week, Goshen Enterprise Director Levite Maesimae welcomed one of its newest customers Junior David, who visited the centre with his first sample of taro.
Mr David expressed his support for the initiative and pledged to increase his production this year, reflecting the growing confidence of farmers in Goshen’s market opportunities.
“This is my first time visiting the buying centre. I will do my best to work harder and produce more taro to sell here,” he said.
Goshen’s products have already reached domestic markets, providing farmers with a reliable income source and helping stimulate the local economy.
Through its continued partnerships with local associations and farmers across the provinces, Goshen has encouraged more farmers to participate in commercial taro production.
By providing a consistent market and processing facilities, Goshen Enterprise is not only supporting farmers’ livelihoods but also contributing to economic growth and agricultural development in the Solomon Islands.
