THE Opposition Group has called on Prime Minister Rick Hou to unveil its priorities for the remaining months of 2018.
Opposition Leader Manasseh Maelanga said Prime Minister Hou in his inaugural speech last November announced that his new administration will quickly put in place a strategy entailing a set of priorities achievable during its short period in office.
He said more than two months on from that announcement, the Prime Minister has yet to unveil the particulars of the strategy to the nation so it can have a clear picture of the direction his Solomon Islands Democratic Coalition for Change Government (SIDCCG) is leading towards.
Mr Maelanga said there are obvious limits to what SIDCCG can achieve within a very short life-span but without clear goals, any tangible achievement that really matters to the people will be impossible.
“One or two clear achievable goals must be established so that government resources can be better utilised to achieve them,” he stressed.
He said if the strategy is to continue with the projects and programmes of the previous Democratic Coalition for Change Government as announced by the Prime Minister in his inaugural speech, then the SIDCCG must commit adequate resources to ensure their accomplishment.
The Opposition Leader said whilst the Opposition welcomes the bold move by Prime Minister in drastically reducing the number of Political Appointees in the Prime Minister’s Office, he must ensure that those who have averted the downsizing exercise are capable of implementing and achieving the SIDCCG priorities.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said on Monday, his government’s policy will be launch mid next month, 100 days after taking up office.
