PERMANENT Secretary (PS) for the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS), Stanley Dick Pirione is pleased with the open dialogue with the Malaita Provincial Government (MPG), Thursday.
Speaking to local media in Auki following the dialogue, Mr Pirione said he is pleased that the dialogue with MARA government was fruitful.
He said the open dialogue was not to discuss any issues, but to hear from the MARA government about issues that it wants to discuss with the national government.
According to Mr Pirione, the government delegation also wishes to hear from the MARA government how it wants to address those issues with the government and the means of dialogue they prefer.
The PS said it is important that those issues are addressed within the boundaries of law so that it will not set a bad precedent for the future.
“There are lots of issues that are coming out from Malaita that needs proper dialogue. This includes the likes of state government, autonomy, and the wish for independence.
“Proper dialogue is truly needed to get to the bottom of all these issues,” Pirione said.
He added, the open discussion with the MARA government yesterday is to open strings of dialogue that will take place later with the national government and MARA government in the future.
With that, the PS said the successful open dialogue gives hope for more dialogue that will see the national government and MARA government iron out their differences.
The PS also thanked the MARA government for their positive attitude and their show of willingness for further dialogue.
In the meantime, Malaita Provincial Premier Daniel Suidani thanked the government delegation for reaching out to the MARA government for the open dialogue.
The government delegation consists of Mr Pirione, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Traditional Government, Peace, and Ecclesiastical Affairs Peter Mae, Director of Community Governance and Grievance Management Project (CGGMP) David Diosi, and Director Robert Kaua.
