Government funded students studying at the USP Samoa campus in Apia are pleading with the national government through the Ministry of Education to release their first semester allowances.
In a statement issued to the Solomon Star over the weekend the group of ten students said, they are frustrated with the delay in payments of their allowances.
“First semester of this year is almost over but we still not receiving any allowances to support us during our study here.”
The students they have waited for nearly five months now since they arrived in Samoa early this year.
“Five months of patience, hoping week after week that ministry(s) responsible would sort out our issue but until now nothing has done with it.
“We don’t know what took it so long to get this far. We are depending on our parents and friends these past few months but we couldn’t get on that trend as everyone is running low of financial support,” the statement said.
There are only 10 students studying in Samoa and students said, thats a fair number the government can work with and handle in addressing their allowances.
“We humbly requesting those responsible in the ministries involved to expedite the process in addressing this student welfare concern.”
