Government hs been urged to seriously address the cash flow problem in the country.
Speaking during the motion of special adjournment moved by the Prime Minister in Parliament on Thursday Opposition Leader Matthew Wale questioned why the country is always facing a cash flow problem.
Hon Wale said the national government must seriously address this issue and deal with the 2026 Budget at the earliest.
He said the government cannot deliver services to the people if the country continue to face cash flow problems.
“The cash flow problem has become a perpetual title placed on the government. What seems to be the problem?
“The government must seriously look into it and take steps to remedy this situation to deliver services to our people,” he said.
The Opposition Leader has cited health services around the country as an example of a sector like other service delivery sectors that needs adequate resourcing and funding.
“Figures appearing on paper is one thing but the availability of funds remain a huge problem for the government,” he said.
Chairman of the Bills & Legislations Committee (BLC) Hon John Maneniaru also shared similar concerns in Parliament.
Hon Maneniaru encouraged the government to address this issue and to come up with reforms to overcome the cash flow problem.
“This should never be business as usual,” he said.
Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Hon Gordon Darcy Lilo pleaded with the government in Parliament to prioritize the 2026 Budget to be dealt with sooner than later.
He said prioritizing how to tackle the cash flow problem should be top priority and government must cut back on unnecessary spending and overseas travelling.
“The 3rd quarter will be very tough if the government cannot acknowledge and address the real question of why we are continuously facing cash flow problems in the country,” the Central Honiara MP said.
