Another milestone project for the Catholic Archdiocese of Honiara will soon commence.
This followed a groundbreaking ceremony held on Friday 29th January at Aruligo, North West Guadalcanal.
The project will involve the construction of a multi-purpose complex to be named ‘St. Mother Teresa Family & Youth Retreat Center.’
The goal of the center is to provide a retreat center for both families and youths.
A statement from the Church said it took three years to finally get the project together.
“But we are excited for what the future could hold and to finally begins the project,” the statement said.
The project will provide a retreat centre and sports ground for all.
A number of guests from the Church, Guadalcanal Provincial Government, Contractor, and nearby communities witnessed the ceremony.
His Grace Archbishop Chris who spoke during the ceremony said the project will provide a venue where all church activities can take place.
“This is a big initiative to further develop a large tract of land into a place for retreat and all types of church pastoral gatherings.
“The large multipurpose building (70m X 40m) with a sitting capacity of 4 thousand and will be used as multipurpose complex,” he said.
Solomon Sheet Steel Company has been contracted to build the complex should be completed within one year.
The area will also include a chapel, a conference room, and a children’s playground.
His Grace Archbishop Chris Cardone acknowledges the Priest’s Council, Dr. Steve Aumanu, and Couples for Christ Ministry for fostering and guiding this large development.
The ceremony was witnessed Billy Barile who represented His Hon Premier for G.Province, Jason Lee(contractor Solomon Sheet Steel construction Ltd), Construction Project manager Mr. Niel, CostPlan Design Services- Project Manager Mr. Joseph Tariga, Fr. John Peter Varea, Fr. John Galvin(Vica General), Fr. John Taheau, Dr. Steve Aumanu (Client Rep), Construction workers and surrounding communities and other invited guests.
