THE newly established Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) based at the Honiara Hotel has refuted claims Sir Nathaniel Waena made against them.
Sir Nathaniel, president of People’s Alliance Party (PAP), has claimed his members have been bribed to remain at Honiara Hotel.
But the group said Sir Nathaniel’s claims were unfounded and a propaganda to destabilise the camp.
“The truth of the matter is that the four PAP members of parliament (MP) have been with us since they arrive in Honiara from their constituencies and they never left our group ever since,” the group said.
“Thus any claim, allegation or suggestion that money was involved to ensure they remain at Honiara Hotel is totally false,” the group said.
The Honiara Hotel camp said it was Sir Nathaniel himself who decided to sign the coalition agreement with the other political parties for his own interest.
They claimed Sir Nathaniel signed because he was offered the Speaker’s post – a claim the former governor general early rejected.
“Sir Nathaniel’s action has caused a huge damage to PAP resulting in the resignation of its three members.”
The three PAP members Freda Tuki Suriakomua, William Bradford Marau and Dudley Kopu have resigned on Wednesday.
This left the lone party wing leader Milner Tozaka at the helm of the party.
The three have expressed their disagreement over what their president did, to sign a coalition agreement with the Mendana camp without their consent last week.
“The public has the right to know why Sir Nathaniel ignored the wishes of his four MPs and their constituencies and opted to sign the purported coalition agreement with the remnants of the Lilo-led regime,” the camp said.
The camp said the action Sir Nathaniel took was the basis for the resignation of the three MPs.
The three have teamed up with United Democratic Party and Kadere Party, which has now formed a new coalition called Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC).
