Students of Faiako Primary School in West Kwara’ae were fortunate to have received a visit and health talk from the YOPP Project Team from Save the Children.
Project Facilitator Jerry Malefo told the Sunday Star that the awareness program was part of Save The Children’s Community and Health outreach programme.
“We provide health awareness and education especially to students in community based schools around the province,” Malefo said.
“The programme focuses mostly on healthy living and healthy lifestyle-and students are informed of the hygienic and healthy practices that will prevent them from getting ill,” Malefo added.
Assistant Officer Alvin Bishop said that through the program, students are taught of diet and nutrition, hygiene practices and disease preventative measures.
“We aim to promote healthy diet and discourage junk food, which brings about non communicable disease such as diabetes.
“It is only through such that we can prevent our children from falling ill,” Bishop said.
Meanwhile, students and staff of Faiako have thanked Save The Children for such initiative and for broadening their knowledge on such healthy living life styles which they say will help them in the long run.
