The Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) high school rugby 7s has completed its pool games yesterday at the Panatina Rugby Oval.
The competition kicked off on Easter Monday and continued yesterday with pool games while play offs and the finals will be played today.
SIRUF development officer Fredson Soaki said, the tournament is part of the SIRUF ongoing development program which focuses on the high school students.
“The aim of the tournament is to engage our young people into sporting activities and to developing the game of rugby,” he added.
Mr Soaki said there is good number of high schools teams that participated in this competition last year and this year.
The tournament is being played into two categories junior and senior categories respectively, he said.
“There were total of eighteen teams that participated into both categories this year; ten participating in junior category while in the senior category eight teams,” he explained.
Yesterday Panatina Oval came alive yesterday as the talented youths showcase their skills and footworks.
Some brilliant side stepping and super tries were also displayed yesterday.
The tournament has attracted hundreds of rugby fans, supporters and family members over the past days.
The play offs will kick off at 9am today followed by the ground finals for both categories.
The tournament was made possible through the funding support from SIRUF.
The Solomon Islands rugby union body has call on the public and rugby fans to come in good numbers to support their respective teams.
