Solomon Islands Basketball Federation (SIBF) has announced the appointment of Gloria Hong as the Chair Lady for the upcoming Melanesian Cup 2025.
The announcement was made ahead of the competition in October.
In a statement Baptiste Kelesi Executive Officer of SIBF confirmed the appointment.
“We are proud to announce the appointment of Gloria Hong as the Chair Lady for the Melanesian Cup 2025!
“Gloria has graciously stepped forward voluntarily, driven by her passion and commitment to ensuring this year’s event is a resounding success.”
In her statement, Hong expressed her excitement about welcoming fellow Melanesians, heads of federations, officials, broadcasters and Volunteers in October for the competition.
She acknowledged the challenges ahead, but emphasized that it is an honor to take on this role, and that the Melanesian Cup will serve as a powerful platform to inspire young athletes across the region.
“Congratulations Gloria and we are with you to make this event a success,” Kelesi said.
Since the announcement many have gone online to congratulate Hong for her appointment.
New Caledonia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands are taking part in the competition.
