The Chairlady of the 2025 FIBA Melanesian Cup Gloria Hong, has expressed pride and gratitude following the successful hosting of the tournament in Honiara in the past weeks.
In a statement, Hong stated the event was more than just a basketball competition it was a true celebration of unity, teamwork, and love for the game across the country.
She also extended appreciation to the Solomon Islands Government through the National Sports Council (NSC), and FIBA Oceania for their trust, support, and partnership throughout the event.
Special thanks were also given to broadcast partner Solomon Telekom, Hatanga, Pacific Casino Hotel, Solomon Islands Submarine Cable, Bulk Shop, Solomon Water, and V-Fresh Water for their contributions.
The Chairlady also praised the teams at Friendship Hall, SINIS, the Rotaract Club, and volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure each match day ran smoothly.
“To our basketball community, the players, coaches, families, and fans, thank you for showing up with so much passion and pride,” she said.
“This tournament has shown what we can achieve when we come together as one family, one nation, united by our love for the game.”
The successful hosting of the 2025 FIBA Melanesian Cup marks another proud moment in Solomon Islands basketball history.
Meanwhile, following the conclusion of the Melanesian Cup, SIBF President William Lai has tendered his resignation, citing personal reasons.
Despite the change in leadership, the Federation says it remains strong and committed to continuing its development plans for basketball across the country.
