Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) is progressing the Honiara International Airport Runway Extension and Terminal maintenance and upgrade Project with a number of activities locked up leading up to middle of May where a contractor is expected to be identified.
The government is in the process of engaging the services of an independent consultant EGIS Singapore PTE Ltd to assess the conceptual design and feasibility study done by the China Harbour Engineering Company in accordance to a Memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Communication and Aviation in 2022. .
EGIS Singapore PTE Ltd has been selected through a bid- waiver to undertake the assessment of the feasility study and submit a proposal no later than Thursday 9th April 2026. EGIS Singapore PTE Ltd is not new to the Runaway and Terminal project having engaged previously in the Airport upgrade projects under the Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation project.
By Friday 10th April 2026, a limited tender will be sent out for three weeks calling for design and build proposal with costings. Proposals are to be submitted no later than Friday 1st May 2026.
On Friday 8th May 2026, government with the help of EGIS to identify the successful bidder.
Government to submit the letter of intent with relevant documents which include final feasility study; recommended contractor (including selection process) and costings before 22nd May 2026.
The budget for the Honiara International Airport Runaway and Terminal maintenance and upgrade Project is approximately USD50 million and if it goes according to plan, the project should be completed before the 50th anniversary celebration of the country in 2028.
The project is one of the flagship policies of the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT).
