Honiara Table Tennis Association (HTTA) early this week, successfully facilitates Safeguarding Workshop (SW) for its local coaches, umpires and its Sport Development Officers (SDO).
HTTA confirmed to Star sport that a total of 14 local coaches, umpires and its sport developments officers have successfully undergone the safeguarding session.
“About 14 coaches umpires and sports developments of our program undergo basic safeguarding sessions in preparation for the 2025 table tennis championships that will start next week 7 October to 9 October 2025at Multi Purpose Hall”.
HTTA President Kevin Olea said the basic session on safeguarding covers the following topic; What and why safeguarding is important?, Forms of abuses in sports, Good practice and bad practice with realistic scenarios and role play, How to deal with issues of safeguarding, and how and to whom we report to?.
Olea said they end the session with a paper and close quiz with total mark of 10/10 and everyone has dis well.
“We ended with a paper and close personal quiz with total marked of 10/10 and was awesome to see that 97% of our participants have 9/10 while 3% have 8/10”, Olea said.
“These indicators demonstrate the learning gained and knowledge about safeguarding in sports.
“We appreciate our volunteers coaches and staffs more specifically our Team up sports partners of Inclusion through sports education officer Mr Reggie Hou in leading the sessions,” Olea concluded.
