THE hunt is now on for a driver who killed a six-year-old boy in a ‘hit-and-run’ incident along the Noro-Munda road in Western Province over the weekend.
The heart-wrenching tragedy has left a local community in shock and are mourning this young soul.
The driver is still at large with the police pursuing his whereabouts.
The driver after the incident failed to surrender himself to police.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the Noro Ziata road to Munda when the young boy, who was reportedly walking near the roadside, was struck by this speeding vehicle, a hilux.
Witnesses said, the driver stopped after hitting the child and later fled the scene immediately.
The hilux was heading towards Munda from Noro when the driver allegedly struck the boy who died on the scene.
Family members and bystanders responded at the scene, but the boy was pronounced dead shortly after due to the severity of his injuries and losing a lot of blood.
The victim’s family and community members are devastated and are calling for justice.
Police have launched a manhunt to locate the driver responsible for the death.
When contacted Noro Police Station yesterday, Police Officers in Charge told this paper that they are yet to arrest the driver.
“We should have followed up the incident but our vehicle broke down since the weekend.
“However the driver will be arrested and charged for his action that took life of an innocent child,” the officer said.
The tragic death has sparked public outcry, with many calling for stronger enforcement of road safety laws and greater accountability for reckless drivers.
Noro and Munda Police are currently conducting investigation surrounding the death of this young boy.
