DEFENDING Telekom S-League (TSL) champions, Solomon Warriors FC has made an impressive start in the second round of the 2018 and 2019 TSL season.
Warriors defeated one of their top rivals, Western United FC 4-0 at the Lawson Tama Stadium on Saturday to give them 19 points.
Leading goal scorer, Kency Tangis was again on the score sheet scoring another hat trick along with a goal by Tigi Molea to give Warriors their opening win of round two.
It was a match that everyone anticipated to be equally contested like it was in their round one meet, however it turned out to be a one sided affair that even Warriors Coach Moses Toata admitted after the match.
“To be fair to Western United FC, today’s game was quite one sided, they did not give us a tough competition.
“I’m happy with the result, it is an important game and the win puts us on the right track.
“The condition today was tough for both sides because of the humidity but I think my boys prepared well.
“We worked hard for the match and I think we deserve the win,” he told local media after the match.
Despite extending their points and edging closer to claiming the seasons title Toata said the battle is far from over.
“We may have maintained the lead but we still need to work hard and maintain our position at the top of the table.
“There will be no easy ride,” he added.
Western United remains on third place with 13 points.
The second match saw Malaita Kingz FC defeated Marist FC 5-2.
Marist took a 2-1 lead in the first half but could not stop Kingz from bouncing back to add another four unanswered goals later in the second half.
The win pushes Kingz up on sixth place while Marist dropped a spot to the seventh position.
Meanwhile Sunday’s matches will feature Henderson Eels FC and Real Kakamora FC at 2pm and FC Guadalcanal will take on KOSSA FC at 4pm.
