CONSULTATIONS to enhance the Disability Mainstreaming Framework concludes on Tuesday.
Ministry of Health and Medical Services acting director of Physiotherapy Rehabilitation Division Elsie Taloafiri said all input from this consultation programme will be followed with further consultations.
Ms Taloafiri said these consultations will assist in the development of the Disability Mainstreaming Framework Guideline – a tool for the coordination, implementation, monitoring, evaluations and reporting of disability across sectors at all levels.
Those who attended the consultation programme include representatives from the Non Government Organisations, media and Solomon Islands Development Trust.
These participants shared their views on the overlapping roles they played in protecting and promoting the rights of disable people.
Ms Taloafiri said the Ministry of Health and Medical Services National Health Strategic Plan 2016-2020 scope people with disabilities as one of its targeted population.
According to the plan, Ms Taloafiri said there needs to be improvement of services towards this marginalised population.
“The key results areas of the National Health Strategic Plan focuses on improving service coverage, improve service quality, build strong partnership and laying the foundation for the future,” she said.
“These key result areas, calls for collaborative efforts from all stakeholders within the ministry and stakeholders with the vision: The people of Solomon Islands will be Healthy, Happy and Productive.”
Therefore, Ms Taloafiri said the consultation programme is the beginning of the journey by all partners for an inclusive service delivery, in mainstreaming disability.
“The Ministry of Health will not work in isolation but taking the approach of disability in the light of Community Based Rehabilitation Matrix as a strategy for rehabilitation, equalisation of opportunities and social inclusion of all persons with disabilities through multi sectoral approach,” she said.
