Men linked in Firearm case to plea
TWO men facing firearm related charges will be entering their pleas to the allegation against them on January 11.
Peter Carlos Kwaitaka, 23, and Iro Kwaita are each facing one count of possession of firearm without Firearm Licence.
They were supposed to enter their pleas yesterday.
However, Kwaitaka’s lawyer was reportedly sick and did not appear in court yesterday.
Kwaita’s lawyer had also more time to obtain instructions from his client for plea.
Principal Magistrate Leonard Chite therefore adjourned the matter to January 11.
Kwaitaka was allegedly arrested after he was found in the possession of a firearm between September and November this year.
The firearm was said to be owned by Kwaita and at the time it was found in Kwaitaka’s possession, he was said to be cleaning and oiling the firearm.
Alleged looter to plea, Jan 11
THE plea of a man accused of stealing valuable properties from the Power Products (Big Chainsaw) at Ranadi during the unrest last November has been adjourned to Tuesday next week.
He is charged with one count of simple larceny.
His matter was listed for plea yesterday but he did not enter his plea as his lawyer had sought more time to obtain instructions for plea.
The accused is charged in relation to the allegation on an unknown date between 24 November and 26 November 2021, where he stole a Stihl water pressure cleaner, a stihl chainsaw at the Power Products.
This was during the three days of unrest in the capital where a number of business houses and shops, were looted and burnt.
The Bank of South Pacific (BSP) at Ranadi and the Kukum Police Station were also burnt as a result of the unrest.
Prosecution alleged that the accused after stealing the properties went and hid them at his home at Abira settlement, located at the valley behind the Panatina Ridge in East Honiara.
However, he was arrested on 5 December 2021.
The accused turned himself to police after he heard police apprehended his wife for questioning.
His wife was released after questioning while the accused was arrested and charged.
Private lawyer Hubert Fugui is representing the accused.
