Man to be sentenced for receiving drinks
A man who confessed to receiving cartons of stolen soft drinks in 2016 at Henderson, East Honiara will be sentenced on August 7.
David Kereka had pleaded guilty to one count of receiving for receiving six cartons of American Cola soft drinks valued at $540.
During the sentencing submissions on Tuesday Police Prosecutor Abel Maelanga asked for a custodial sentence of 10 to five months imprisonment.
Kereka’s lawyer Lazarus Waroka on the other hand sought a lesser custodial sentence asking the court to consider his client’s action as being only as an opportunist.
He said his client just received those properties and did not plan with the robbers.
Kereka received six cartons of American Cola soft drinks from a group of people who broke into a container belonging to Grace Trading Limited at Henderson Crossroad.
The group of people were said to have stolen more 2,000 cartons of American Cola soft drinks and loaded them into their vehicle before taking off.
The incident occurred between April and May 2016.
Two people charged in connection to the break-in offences are currently under a warrant of arrest since towards the end of 2016.
Rape accused to plea
A man accused of raping a disabled girl at a cocoa plantation in East Guadalcanal early this year will appear in court again on August 15.
This is for the accused to take his plea to one count of rape.
The man who cannot be named because he is related to the alleged victim appeared in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court yesterday and was further remanded in custody.
His matter was listed for plea yesterday but because his lawyer was not present, the matter was further adjourned.
Rodney Manebosa of Public Solicitor’s Office who represents this accused was not available as he is away on a provincial court circuit.
Prosecution alleged the accused allegedly raped the 18 year-old disabled girl at a cocoa plantation in East Guadalcanal.
Public Prosecutor Patricia Tabepuda is representing the Crown.
