The Land and Maritime Connectivity Project (LMCP) participated in a press conference hosted by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) on Tuesday, 10 February 2026.
Speaking during the conference, LMCP Team Leader Ian Archer highlighted the project’s ongoing activities and its role in supporting the Solomon Islands Government infrastructure priorities.
“In Honiara, construction activities are advancing well. Works on the Tandai Highway four-lane upgrade are progressing steadily, with improvements ongoing at the Rove Roundabout to be followed by a new roundabout at Bishop’s Dale.
“The sealing of the St John to Rove Bulk Shop road section is nearing completion and main roadwork activity is targeted to be finalised by end of February,” Mr Archer said.
Upgrading works along Mendana Avenue are also continuing, with the contractor focusing on preparatory works such as drainage works and utility line relocation.
Follow up asphalt sealing, spanning from the Heritage Park Roundabout to the Honiara City Council Roundabout, is scheduled to commence in early-March.
Works will be carried out in stages, to mitigate impacts to adjacent property & business owners, but traffic congestion will be unavoidable and the continued patience and understanding of the general public is appreciated.
In Guadalcanal Province, shoulder construction works at the Nguvia School section are progressing as planned.
These works include shaping, compaction, and drainage upgrades designed to strengthen pavement edges and improve pedestrian safety, particularly for school children.
Progress is also visible across the provinces. At Ahanga Wharf on Bellona Island, construction of the new wharf is progressing well with piling expected to commence during March (once remaining equipment arrives).
Meanwhile, in KiraKira, the new wharf is well advanced with works on Passenger Building to start in near future and run in parallel with completing the main wharf structure which is targeted to be completed by mid-2026.

At the Honiara Port International Wharf, dismantling of the existing wharf structure is underway, marking the commencement of major works in coming months.
Minister for Infrastructure Development, Hon. Ricky Fu’o, welcomed the progress to improve infrastructure development.
“The ministry will continue to support through each phase of these infrastructure investments. The ultimate goal is to improve connectivity and support economic opportunities. “The two provincial wharfs designed as climate-resilient structures, once completed, will improve maritime activities that will spur economic activity and the flow of services to remote islands,” Minister Fuo’o said.
He added that the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) will continue to work closely with our development partners to deliver safe, reliable, and resilient infrastructure across the country and also with renewed focus to have most projects delivered by 2028, just in time for the country’s 50th independence anniversary.
LMCP is supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and delivered in partnership with the Solomon Islands Government.
