International runners from overseas have started arriving ahead of the annual FlySolomons Peace Marathon, set for this Saturday, 30 August 2025.
And excitement is building in Honiara as Solomon Airlines welcomes international guests.
The marathon is not only a test of endurance but also a celebration of peace, fitness, and the Solomon Islands’ rich World War II heritage, attracting athletes from across the globe.
International participants have already started arriving, and the remainder are expected to arrive on Thursday and Friday this week, completing the lineup of global runners ready to take on Guadalcanal’s historic course. Most of the international athletes will compete in the full marathon and half marathon events.
The marathon route takes participants through some of Guadalcanal’s most iconic World War II sites, including Bloody Ridge, Henderson Airport, Fighter 1, Hells Point, and Tenaru School.

This unique combination of sport and history gives runners and spectators alike a chance to experience the nation’s heritage while promoting global unity and peace.
Solomon Airlines also extends its appreciation to its event partner, Travel Solomons, whose support has been pivotal in managing the event.
Their services include welcoming international guests at the airport and providing shuttle transfers to accommodations, ensuring visitors enjoy a warm Solomon Islands welcome.
“The FlySolomons Peace Marathon is more than a race; it’s a chance to showcase the Solomon Islands’ rich WW2 history, culture and hospitality to the world,” said John Wopereis, Manager Commercial at Solomon Airlines.
“We are thrilled to welcome international runners to Guadalcanal and for them to experience the Marathon in key WW2 locations such as the Bloody Ridge National Historical Park, we want to see this event grow each year, strengthening our tourism profile and promoting peace and unity.”
Registration remains open until Friday, 29 August 2025, and both local and international participants are encouraged to join this unique sporting and historic experience.
