Solomon Islands Chinese Women’s Association Hosts International Women’s Day to Promote China–Solomon Cultural Exchange
Solomon Islands Chinese Women’s Association hosted a celebration for International Women’s Day on Sunday evening March 8, 2026.
The event was held at AJ Barden Betikama Restaurant in Malango Ward.
Guests attending the event included representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Solomon Islands, the China Police Liaison Team in Solomon Islands, female officers from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, representatives of the Chinese Association, female medical staff from the National Referral Hospital, as well as Chinese and local female teachers from the Chung Wah School.
All gathered together to celebrate International Women’s Day and experience the charm of traditional Chinese culture.
The event was hosted by Fiona and Lan, who opened the program by extending sincere holiday greetings to all guests and women present.
They noted that the event was not only a celebration of women but also a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange between China and Solomon Islands.
Through tea culture, traditional clothing, and Chinese cuisine, the association hoped to allow more local friends to better understand and appreciate the richness of traditional Chinese culture.

The atmosphere of the event was warm and lively, with the cultural showcase becoming one of the highlights of the day.
The program began with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony performance. The tea master demonstrated the etiquette and aesthetics of Chinese tea culture through graceful and composed movements, illustrating the values of harmony, tranquility, and elegance embodied in Chinese tea traditions. Guests enjoyed tasting tea while experiencing the unique charm of Chinese culture.
This was followed by a Chinese traditional costume showcase.
Several women from the association and community presented costumes from different historical periods of China.
The display included Mulan-style attire from the Northern Wei Dynasty, the flowing styles of the Wei, Jin, and Southern and Northern Dynasties, the magnificent clothing of the prosperous Tang Dynasty, the elegant and understated garments of the Song Dynasty, and the traditional Mamian skirt.

The presentation concluded with costumes from the Modern China, reflecting a blend of traditional and modern aesthetics.
The colorful and diverse display impressed the audience and highlighted the thousand-year heritage of Chinese clothing culture.
The Chinese cuisine demonstration brought the event to its climax. Chinese women demonstrated how to make dumplings, inviting local Solomon Islands women to participate and try it themselves.
Participants learned enthusiastically, and the room was filled with laughter and joy. Dumplings symbolize reunion and happiness, and this warm interaction not only allowed local friends to experience the fun of making traditional Chinese food but also further strengthened friendship and communication between the two communities.
After the event, a staff member from the National Referral Hospital, expressed her appreciation:
“Thank you very much to the Solomon Islands Chinese Women’s Association for the invitation. This event allowed me to truly feel the charm and warmth of Chinese culture. Everyone was so welcoming and hospitable. If there are more events like this in the future, I would definitely love to attend again.”

Ms. Huang Juan, President of the Solomon Islands Chinese Women’s Association, said that the event successfully achieved its intended goals.
Through exchanges in tea culture, traditional clothing, and cuisine, the association not only helped Solomon Islands friends gain a deeper understanding of excellent Chinese traditional culture, but also strengthened mutual understanding and friendship among women of the two countries.
In the future, the association will continue to build bridges for cultural exchange and allow the friendship between China and the Solomon Islands to grow and flourish through people-to-people interactions.
At the end of the event, all participants gathered for a group photo, bringing the International Women’s Day celebration to a successful conclusion in a warm and joyful atmosphere.
