Chairman of Burns creek Community, East Honiara, John Set Iromea has questioned why Malaita Ma’asina Forum (MMF) has remained silent over the $3 million payment made to ex-militants on Christmas Eve, 2015.
Mr Iromea said the controversial payment had sparked wide public anger and criticism across the country.
He said while many former statesmen and members of the public have raised their opposition against the payment describing it as illegal and irresponsible, he is wondering why the usual outspoken organization, MMF which has always been upfront and outspoken on issues of national interests had chosen to remain silent about the $3million payment.
Mr Iromea alleged many people from Malaita Province do not support the payment; hence expect Malaita Ma’asina Forum to speak out on such issue on behalf of its people.
Mr Iromea said the long silence by MMF can only be interpreted as supporting the wishes of a minority group.
Iromea said many Malaitans are not happy with the way Malaita Ma’asina Forum is not making representation on behalf of the many Malaita people.
“We Malaitans are really not happy with the payment, and now we can see that MMF is only representing the interests of a few Malaita individuals,” he said.
He said many Malaita and Guadalcanal people were victims of militia men actions during the ethnic tension and logically expect Malaita Ma’asina Forum to speak out on their behalf on such matters.
