CHAIRMAN of Burns Creek community, John Seti Iromea has hailed the efforts of chiefs and elders who have taken the effort to help counsel and advise youths in the area to refrain from criminality and drug and alcohol abuses.
Mr Iromea said that throughout the past weeks, many of the chiefs and elders within their community have engaged themselves in advising and counseling many Burns Creek youths to become better residents of their own communities.
He added that young people have also been encouraged to join Church and spiritual activities as a means of turning from drug and alcohol abuse and criminal activities.
“Over the past weeks a lot of our chiefs and elders have helped our young people refrain from involving in unwanted and unlawful activities and also indulging themselves in drugs and alcohol abuses.
“We have even held talks in Church programs for our young people to help their peer groups to refrain from unlawful activities, as our community have always been associated with criminal activities, even though our young people are not involved,” Mr Iromea said.
Meanwhile Mr Iromea said that as a community they will continue helping their youths help themselves in changing people’s perceptions and perspective of their own community.
