Chief Helkia Mola of Gurumei in Isabel province has thanked Green Tree Company for constructing the much need road in their area.
Mola told Sunday Star in an interview that construction work on the road by the company is progressing well.
“On behalf of my people I would like to thank the Green Tree Company for constructing the road from Raja to Visena Community High School,’’ he said.
“Our provincial government and the national government have not even bothered to build this road despite the fact many people have lost their lives traveling the route by boats during bad weather conditions in the absence of a road,” he said.
He said on record so far, 16 people have lost their lives while about 4o canoes have either capsized or sunk while travelling between Raja and Visena community high school in the past.
“So now that a road has been constructed in this area everyone should be happy and allow access through their land so that we can use the road rather than risking our lives using boats,’’ he said.
Chief Mola pointed out that everyone can be users of roads while only a few privileged own outboard motor powered boats to travel the distance by sea transport.
“Thus, I would like to take this opportunity to call for support from everybody around this area to cooperate and help develop our area.
“At the same time I would like to acknowledged the Green Tree Company for their great assistance,’’ Mola said.
