The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has clarified that the Facebook post that has gone viral is untrue and misleading.
The photos referred to, portray armed police officers and a Chinese security guard hanging an object on his shoulder.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) National Security and Operation Support Mr Ian Vaevaso confirmed that these photos were captured on Friday morning (25.04.25) during a security operation at the Gold Ridge mine site.
DC Vaevaso said the object hanging on the Chinese security guard is a baton torch placed in a bag and not a gun, as most people assumed.
Mr Vaevaso said it is illegal for any company or individual to own or in-possession of a gun/firearm.
DC Ian urges social media users to refrain from sharing misleading information that would only spark fear.
He emphasised the importance of verifying information before spreading it further, as misinformation can only lead to unnecessary panic within the community.
