A MAN who assaulted a student after he cut a wooden post of his house in March has been sentenced to one and a half year in prison.
Junior Manebona pleaded guilty to one count of Unlawful Wounding and was sentenced during the Tulagi Magistrate’s Court circuit.
Principal Magistrate Michael Fagani handed down the sentence yesterday.
The victim is a 19- year-old male student from Siota Secondary School in the Central Islands Province.
The court heard that on 25 March 2025, the victim and two other students went to cut firewood for the school when the victim accidently cut a wooden post of Manebona’s house.
The defendant became angry, approached the victim aggressively and swore at him.
Manebona then grabbed the handle of the axe held by the victim.
The victim held on tightly to the sharp edge of the axe, when the defendant pulled it, resulting in a wound to his hand measuring 3 centimetres long and 1.5 centimetres deep.
The injury required five stitches.
The defendant was later arrested and charged for this incident.
Jayson Anisi of Public Solicitor’s Office represented the defendant, while Public Prosecutor Jeremy Oiofa appeared for the Crown.
