The Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court has conducted a court circuit at Buala recently, sentencing a 36-year-old male to ten months for an indecent act that occurred last year.
Buala police charged the defendant with an incident act contrary to section 138 (1) (d) of the penal code [chap 26], as amended by the Penal Code (Amendment) (Sexual Offences) Act 2016.
The defendant has started serving his 10-month sentence at Rove Correctional Centre after he pleaded guilty before the magistrate.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Isabel Provincial, Inspector Harry Vanosi, said that the defendant was under the influence of alcohol when he went into the victim’s room and started touching her inappropriately when she was asleep.
PPC Vanosi condemns the act as immoral and unacceptable. No one should force or indecently touch another person without their consent. Such acts will not be tolerated, and offenders will be held accountable under the law.
Inspector Vanosi reminds the good people in Isabel to respect others, protect our family, and report any similar incident immediately to police.
