The project aims to improve the learning environment for students and teachers at the school.
Under the project, the Government of Japan will provide USD 106,604 [SBD860k] in grant assistance to support the construction of the classroom building.
The funding is expected to enhance access to a proper educational environment for students, teachers, and staff of Buruku Adventist Primary School.
In his remarks, Japan Ambassador to SI, His Excellency Kaiichi Haguci highlighted that supporting young people and basic education in the Solomon Islands remains a key priority under the Grassroots and Human Security Scheme.
“As I have mentioned at other occasions in the past, supporting young people in the Solomon Islands remains a key priority for me,” he said.
“In a similar context, one of the priority areas of our assistance under the Grassroots and Human Security Scheme is supporting basic education.”
H.E. Haguchi noted that the Solomon Islands has a large youth population with many aspirations, and expressed confidence that the project would contribute positively to the country’s socio-economic development.
The initiative is also expected to further strengthen the cordial and long-standing relationship between the Solomon Islands and Japan.

Speaking on behalf of the school and community, PTA Chairman, Mr. Patric Masakolo thanked Government and people of Japan for the generous funding for the school.
“Your support will make a lasting and meaningful change in the lives of our children,” he said.
“This signing is counted as one of the great achievements of our community.
