Solomon Islands only National Herbarium has received a boost to its ongoing work plans to increasing its working capability with a scanner recently with assistance by Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA).
The Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA) through its continuous working partnership with the Ministry of Forestry and Research under the Sustainable Forest Resource Management (SFRM) Project pave way for this generous assistance.
Forestry Permanent Secretary (PS) Richardson Raomae in receiving the assistance said such support is indeed a timely one.
“Especially when the Ministry and staff of the Herbarium are eagerly wanting to equip its specimen’s laboratory with the right equipment’s to making sure it functions fully as mandated,” he added.
PS Raomae stressed that the scanners functions will be very helpful to the proper record keeping of plant specimens into a database, making it be more accessible to researchers and scholars alike, digitally.
“Moving into a digitized world, the means to keeping update to this trend in terms of readiness, availability and accessibility of such information’s is vital; and we are glad that JICA has stepped up into that urgency,” he further acknowledged.
Advisor, JICA Project Formulation Mr. Okazaki Hiroyuki also expressed his organisations greatest gratitude and pleasure in supporting the only National Herbarium in Solomon Islands.
“The Government and people of Japan are indeed happy that we support such a very important part of an organisation’s function, though small; we are sure it will be put into its useful purpose and see its fruition soon,” said Mr Hiroyuki.
The Scan Snap V600 is an Overhead and Simplex type of machine with a scan speed of 3 seconds per page, applicable for high resolution images, scan documents sizes at 432x300mm maximum and a minimum of 25.4×25.4mm.
