Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) will commemorate its 50 Anniversary on June 21.
An organizing committee has been formed by the JOCV to prepare for the event.
JOCV programme was founded in 1965.
In Solomon Islands the exchange of note was signed on the Independence July 7 in 1978 between the government of Solomon Islands and Japan.
Followed by the agreement for the dispatched of JOCV members the first group of two volunteers were sent to Solomon Islands and worked at the Auki Fisheries Centre in Malaita province.
Since then more than 350 Japanese volunteers have been dispatched to Solomon Islands in various technical field.
This figure shows Japan’s strong commitment to Solomon Islands.
Currently 18 JOCV members are working in various sectors with plan to increase the number up to 30-40.
