A 32-year-old male suspect has been arrested for murdering a 15-year-old boy at Kuava village in Vela La Vela, Western Province (WP) on 3 January 2026.
Supervising Assistant Commissioner (AC) Provincial Mr. Tex Tafoa said the deceased was a key police witness to a murder incident that occurred back in December 2024.
Supervising AC Tafoa said the deceased, with two other boys from the same village, went to the defendant’s house when the incident occurred.
AC Tafoa said while they were standing together, the accused asked the deceased for his kitchen knife, and the deceased handed it over, not knowing what would happen next.
Mr. Tafoa said it was alleged that the suspect took the knife from the deceased and stabbed him in his chest.
“The deceased tried to escape but was unable and fell on the ground unconsciously. The victim, who later deceased, was transported to Gizo hospital but died upon arrival,” said Tafoa.
The suspect was arrested and charged with murder contrary to section 200 of the penal code cap 26 and is currently remanded at Gizo Correctional Facility for his trial.
The deceased is a police key witness to a murder incident in the same area in 2024, which is currently on trial.
Nine suspects have been arrested in relation to the death of a male person in his 70s whose body was found near the Sagorana coconut plantation on 28 December 2024.
It was alleged that the suspects planned the attack on the deceased after an incident of a sorcery case occurred way back in 2023.
