Dear Editor – Good fun means good health for our children.
Let’s all work together for better.
One can never miss the coloured fence along the road side, right opposite the Police headquarter in Rove west side of Honiara.
The height of the fence indicates the space behind can be a lovely day out for little children. It is locally known as Children’s Park.
The recent upgrade is attractive and suitable for care givers and children to appreciate.
I acknowledge responsible authorities for building appropriate facilities children can explore with fun. However, sadly to say the need to create this space for the under aged was seen to be abused over the past years by some public users.
Misuse and damages to facilities reflect undesirable behaviours people have. Drinking alcohol which is prohibited and improper disposal of rubbish by unthoughtful people is also an issue.
Worst still, it was also abused as a dating spot for few adults, but commonly teenagers. Lack of respect for our children cannot be ignored and should be discouraged.
Although restrictions put in place, carelessness is intolerable. Having a keeper on change intervals to look after the area can be an option to prevent unrelated activities happening as experienced in the past.
We should care utmost and not depriving the development of our younger generation.
Thus, restrictions on the park MUST be strongly enforced as we take pride to build the environment that caters for good fun and health our children deserve.
Many thanks.
