S-League leaders Malaita Kingz FC were held to a 1-1 draw by ninth-placed Waneagu United as the 2025 season wrapped up its round 13 mid-week catch-up fixtures on Wednesday.
Kingz started strongly, dominating most of the play, but failed to convert their numerous chances, with both sides heading into the break goalless.
Dalton Saeni broke the deadlock early in the second half to hand Kingz the lead, but it was short-lived as Ronald Kwai equalised minutes later for Waneagu.
Despite pushing hard for a winner in the closing stages, the Eddie Marahare coached side were unable to break down a resilient Waneagu defence, who held on to claim a valuable point and prevent their opponents from extending their lead at the top.
In the day’s other matches, Marist FC handed third-placed Kossa FC their third defeat of the season with a 2-1 victory. Junior Samaini opened the scoring for Marist just before halftime, before Rueben Floyd doubled the lead in the 74th minute with his first goal of the campaign. Kossa’s Allen Peter pulled one back late on, but it was too little, too late.
Meanwhile, league debutants Ghupo FC continued their impressive run with a 4-1 triumph over Southern United.
Attention now turns to match-week 17 this weekend, with six exciting clashes at Lawson Tama Stadium.
