Tasmania, South Guadalcanal, was in celebration over the weekend, as Kolina FC secured the DuiDui Ward Appointed Day Champion Cup, edging out PKV FC with a thrilling 1-0 victory in the final moments of the match.
The competition was held as part of the Second Appointed Day of Guadalcanal Province.
The tournament brought together 18 teams from across DuiDui Ward, each showcasing grit, talent, and community pride.
The final clash between Kolina FC and PKV FC was a tense and tactical battle that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.
With the scoreboard still locked at 0-0, the referee signalled five minutes of added time. Kolina FC seized the moment, launching a swift counter-attack that culminated in a stunning goal just seconds before the final whistle, sending their supporters into ecstatic celebration.
Despite PKV FC’s valiant efforts, time ran out before they could respond, and Kolina FC emerged as champions.
Speaking after the match, Kolina FC team representative John Ramo expressed his pride: “This game was really tough, as PKV is a strong team with very good players. We knew we had to fight until the last minute. “The goal wasn’t just for us; it was for our village, our supporters, and everyone who believes in the power of unity. This win shows what heart and teamwork can achieve.
“We also want to acknowledge our MPA, Hon. John Stewart, for organizing and hosting such an outstanding event for the people of DuiDui Ward and for being part of our celebration this year.”
Beyond the Champions Cup, the event was a celebration of DuiDui Ward’s resilience and cultural vibrancy. Communities from all corners of the Ward gathered to cheer, connect, and honor the spirit of unity and sport.
John Stewart, MPA for DuiDui Ward, praised the event: “I’m happy to host this year’s event here in Tasmania and proud of the cooperation and hard work from our communities here in DuiDui Ward.”
The winner walked away with a trophy and the top cash prize.
The second place in the competition goes to PKV Blue FC (Tina Inland), which received a cash prize of $1,700. The third place was awarded to Learners Trial United (Horabau), with a prize of $1,300, while Savuna FC claimed fourth place with a cash prize of $1,000.
The Best and Fairest Team award went to Uncle Brother’s FC (Tasmania), which received a cash prize of $500. Additionally, the Uniform Parade was won by Mbiti Back Rock, also receiving a cash prize of $500.
The Golden Boot award was shared by Dickson Salua and Jnr Manami, both from PKV Blue FC.
With the trophy now in Kolina’s hands, the legacy of the 2025 Champions Cup will endure—not just in the score line, but in the unity it inspired across DuiDui Ward.
