Member of Parliament (MP) for South Vella La Vella and Party Leader of Solomon Islands People’s First Party Frederick Kologeto was officially sworn in on Sunday afternoon as the new Deputy Prime Minister (DPM).
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Government House in Honiara.
He replaced Bradley Tovosia.
Also sworn in was Cathy Nori, MP for Maringe/Kokota, who takes up the role of Minister for Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs.
The ceremony was officiated by the Governor-General, His Excellency Sir Reverend David Tiva Kapu.
Hon. Kologeto continues in his current role as Minister for Civil Aviation. His appointment as Deputy Prime Minister reflects his growing leadership within the GNUT, a coalition made up of the Ownership, Unity and Responsibility (OUR) Party, the Kandere Party, and the People’s First Party, one of the major parties in the coalition with eight parliamentary members.
Hon. Nori’s swearing-in marks a significant step toward increasing gender representation in Cabinet and strengthening GNUT’s commitment to inclusive and community-oriented leadership.
Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele who witnessed the ceremony welcomed both appointments, noting that they add strength and balance to the GNUT executive.
“These appointments demonstrate our commitment to inclusive governance and to delivering results for all Solomon Islanders,” the Prime Minister stated.
The Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) continues to focus on building a stable, effective, and representative leadership team.
