Communities around Kolokofa, Kia District in Isabel Province are celebrating a major milestone with the launch of mobile and internet services through the new R73 site tower.
This achievement ends years of digital isolation for local residents, who previously lacked reliable connectivity despite network expansion across other parts of Isabel Island.
While much of Isabel Province enjoyed improved telecommunications, Kolokofa and nearby areas remained under-served, placing families, businesses, and institutions at a disadvantage.
This advancement is a direct outcome of the strategic partnership between China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) and Huawei Technologies Company Limited as part of the Solomon Islands National Broadband Project with strong support from Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA) and related ministries, PRC Embassy in SI, Solomon Tower Limited, Solomon Telekom Company Limited (STCL) and local communities. With the activation of the Kolokofa (R73) site, 41 network sites nationwide are on air, reflecting ongoing progress in connecting remote regions to essential digital infrastructure.
Local residents now benefit from reliable mobile phone coverage and high-speed internet, improving access to education, healthcare information, business opportunities, and communication with loved ones domestically and internationally.
Enhanced connectivity also strengthens disaster response capabilities, government engagement, and integration into the Solomon Islands’ growing digital economy.
The R73 site launch is more than a technological upgrade—it is a pivotal step toward closing long-standing digital gaps and fostering a more connected and inclusive Solomon Islands.
