Republic of Korea pledges to strengthen its bilateral relations with Solomon Islands.
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands Kim Seong-Choon, made assurance when signing a Framework Arrangement for Grant Aid 2014 in Honiara last week.
He said Korea is well aware of the pains and agonies of developing countries, for the simple reason that they have been there as well.
“Taking this opportunity, I would like to mention that Korea will continue to cooperate with Solomon Islands and support the human resources development of this country,” Mr Seong-Choon said.
“The wise people of Korea and Solomon Islands have realized the importance of partnership.
“Thus, I would like to affirm Korea’s willingness to closely work together with Solomon Islands on the road to enduring partnership,” he said.
Ambassador Seong-Choon added Korea is clearly a latecomer when it comes to development cooperation as a donor country.
But it is well acknowledged that the commitment of Korean Government and the people to eradicate global poverty is strong and genuine.
“The motivation that is driving Korea to step up its efforts in the area of poverty eradication lies in our strong resolve to pay back the international community what we have received.
“As such it is indeed an honor for me to sign Framework Arrangement on Grant Aid for the Year 2014 between the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Government of Solomon Islands.
“I sincerely wish that the successful implementation of the project, symbolizes amicable and cooperative relations between our two countries,
“That will contribute to enhancing not only the fisheries capacity in Solomon Islands but also friendship and partnership between Korea and Solomon Islands,” Ambassador Seong-Choon said.
