The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) William Lai says his inclusion to the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Executive is important for Solomon Islands Football.
Lai revealed this upon arrival yesterday from Zurich where he and other SIFF executive members took part in the recently held FIFA presidential elections.
“As a Football nation it’s important that we are part of OFC in the decision making.
“We need to work together as a region at the same time the region needs Solomon too, that means we cannot work isolated.
“So my appointment to the OFC is to ensure that we have a voice there and that is important,” he said.
He said, being part of the OFC executive does not mean it will be of great development for football in the country.
He highlighted that it is the Solomon Islands itself that have to work hard
Lai’s appointment to the OFC Executive Committee was made in Zurich ahead of the 65th FIFA Congress.
The position was previously held by former chairman of the SIFF Normalisation Committee Barnabas Anga, who was elected following the 23rd OFC Ordinary Congress held in Papua New Guinea in January.
OFC President David Chung is pleased to have Lai on board. He said Lai has a wealth of business experience as well as a lengthy background in Solomon Islands football development and that his inclusion on the OFC Executive Committee will be of tremendous benefit not only to Solomon Islands football, but to the region as a whole as he shares his expertise and knowledge.
