YOU have made the right decision in allowing your land for this development to take place, says Premier Daniel Suidani.
The Malaita Provincial Premier uttered this when officially handing over the Manawai Harbour Market building last Friday in East Are’Are, Malaita Province.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony, Premier Suidani thanked the land owning tribe, chiefs, and elders of Manawai for the bold decision taken.
This has resulted in the communities taking ownership of a very first modern market facility in Ward 19.
“I must thank the chiefs, elders, and owners of this land where this facility is built on.”
“You are indeed the example that Malaita is looking to.”
“People, tribes and clans that are willing to surrender their land for our common good. This is what development thinking is, allowing your resources for the betterment of all,” Suidani said.
The premier said it is sad that the practice is not common in other parts of our province.
“…..but today I salute you and honor you for a job well done.”
“I also want to thank the contractor that has built this facility, you have done a good job and I on behalf of the MARA government would like to thank you for a job well done.”
He said he believed that the fulfillment of the project I believe is a product of working together between the people and the government.”
“Without that collaboration we would not be here today.”
The Premier also thanked the former Ward 19 MPA Morris Hauahe for initiating the project and the current Ward 19 MPA Misach Maukera for supporting the project.
Suidani also encourages the Manawai community and surrounding communities to look after the market building so that it will continue to serve the communities facilitating their income generating needs at the community level.
