A delegation from Learning and Ecological Activities Foundation for children (LEAF) program in Japan is currently in the country.
The delegation is here to develop a program for recycling of waste management and recycling of PET bottles for export to generate income for people living in Honiara.
This is project is being implemented in partnership with Honiara City Council (HCC) waste management program
The delegation arrived in Honiara on Saturday and had conducted several visits around the city last week and this week.
LEAF coordinator in Honiara Natsuko Kishimoto told the Solomon Star yesterday said, the delegation is here to develop program of recycle PET bottles for export.
They will establishing a system which will feature a separate collection system of household waste through public-private cooperation based on the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Return) concept.”
The members of the delegation are; Masayoshi Ogawa, Project Manager of this project and board member of LEAF. He used to work at Nishinomiya city hall for 34 years. He has promoted Environmental Learning Activities as municipal government officer in Nishinomiya city.
Atsushi Yukiyasu is a mechanical engineer from ShinMaywa Company. ShinMaywa is one of the biggest compactor makers in Japan. He will do training workshop and lecture to mechanics of HCC Works division for waste collection vehicle maintenance.
Mr.Jun Hirooka, is from private waste collection company relief. In the company he is in charge of safety education to drivers and crews. He will also do training workshop and lecture to compacter drivers and crews of HCC works division for safety and proper operation of MSW Collection Service.
Ms.Yumi Yamazaki is representative of Koto Eco-community. Koto Eco-community promotes waste reduction in community level. Koto Eco-community is made up of community members, waste collection company and municipal government. She will give the idea and advice for promote waste reduction in community.
