CHRISTMAS has come early for the interior of Ward 3 in West Kwarae’a Malaita Province as the Kwaiafa Football League brings excitement, unity, and festive spirit to families across the region.
The league kicked off on 29 November, drawing together six teams from Sasale, Laugwata, Buiano, Tehila, Adi Adi, and Gwaiako for what has become more than just a sports competition.
For the first time, all six neighbouring communities have been united to celebrate the upcoming festive season through football, marking a significant moment along Kwaiafa river.
Communities described the event as a joyful and memorable experience, with men, women, and children gathering in large numbers to cheer for their village teams.

The atmosphere of laughter and community pride has brought renewed happiness to many villagers.
The tournament was initiated by young Tehila, Faubora and Laugwata (TFL) leaders who recognised the importance of using sports to build stronger, more connected communities.
Their vision led to the expansion of the league, inviting nearby villages to join and share the joy of the Christmas season.
On Saturday 13 December 2025, the Kwaiafa football field ceme alive once again with another exciting round of matches:
Buiano FC vs Tehila FC
Sasale FC vs Laugwata FC
Adi Adi FC vs Gwaiako FC

Another thrilling weekend was expected as families gather to enjoy football, strengthen friendships, and celebrate unity.
Beyond the matches, local mothers have taken the opportunity to sell food and goods at the fieldside markets, generating small but meaningful incomes to support their households.
According to organizing committee, the league aims to not only entertain but also promote teamwork, respect, and positive behaviour among youths, while discouraging antisocial activities within the communities.
The tournament trophies were donated by the West Kwara’ae Constituency, with additional logistical support provided by individuals who believe in the importance of uplifting the Kwaiafa region.
As the festive season approaches, the Kwaiafa Football League stands as a powerful reminder that sports can unite people, strengthen communities, and bring joy to even the most rural parts of the Solomon Islands.
