Following completion of Mostyn Mangau as Police Commissioner over the past six years, Mathias Lenialu was sworn-in on Wednesday – 7 January 2026 as the Acting Police Commissioner.
He took his Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office before the Governor-General, Sir David Tiva Kapu, formalizing his appointment as Acting Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).
Mr. Mangau was formally fareweled last week by members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).
Prior to his posting to Rove Police Headquarters, Mr. Lenialu served as the Provincial Police Commander (PCC) for Western Province for several years.
He will serve as Acting Commissioner of RSIPF until a substantive appointment is made in accordance with the constitutional process.
Its understood Government will announce the new Police Commissioner soon.
