Major rehabilitation and reconstruction works on roads throughout Honiara will continue under three ongoing programs: the Land and Maritime Connectivity Program (LMCP), Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement Project Phase 2 (CAUSE 2), and the Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project Phase 2 (SIRAP II).
Minister of Infrastructure Development, Ricky Fuo’o, confirmed this during debate on the 2026 Appropriation Bill 2025 in Parliament on Monday. He said these programs have proven effective in delivering high-quality roadworks, while promoting community engagement and local employment.
Key works planned under these programs include:
- Sealing of the Rove–Tasahe Road
- Reconstruction of the White River Loop Road
- Upgrade of the Vura Road network
- Improvements to West Kola Road
- Ongoing rehabilitation of feeder, suburban, and settlement-access roads across Honiara
“These works are essential not only for transport efficiency but also for economic activity, public safety, disaster resilience, and urban beautification. Roads connect our people to markets, schools, clinics, and workplaces. When roads improve, development follows,” he said.
Minister Fuo’o noted that Honiara, home to the largest concentration of population, commerce, government institutions, and essential services, faces increasing pressure on its aging and congested road networks.
The Ministry has also secured funding for the Greater Honiara Connectivity Project, a flagship initiative that will open new transport corridors between East and West Honiara. The proposed road link from Betikama to White River will ease congestion along the Kukum Highway, open new residential and commercial areas, and provide alternative emergency routes.
Additionally, feasibility studies are underway for the White River to Lambi Road, which aims to unlock the economic potential of Northwest Guadalcanal by improving market access, reducing travel time for farmers, and creating new opportunities for tourism and small business.
“These investments demonstrate our commitment to modernising Honiara’s road network and supporting sustainable urban and economic growth,” Minister Fuo’o said.
